What is the purpose of the Volunteer Group?
The Volunteers were organized to provide specialized services to patients of the hospital, in addition to charitable and educational services that benefit the community. We generally award as many as thirty $1,000 scholarships each year to deserving students in the Allied Health Field. Over $394,000 in scholarships have been awarded to date. We also participate in health fairs and flu immunization programs, provide New Testaments for newborns, newspapers for patients, and a variety of other special activities.

Who may join the Volunteers?
Any male or female 18 years of age or older. You must be out of high school. Some of the people who volunteer are homemakers, working professionals, retirees, and students.

Why should I join the Volunteer Group?
To be a part of a special team, to help those who need it, to develop new interests, to make friends and acquaintances, to develop leadership abilities, and to gain a sense of achievement.

How do I join the Volunteer Group?

  • Pick up an application at the Gift Shop in the Hospital.
  • Call the Volunteer office at 325-649-3399 to have an application mailed to you.
  • Fill out the Volunteer Information Form.

How much does it cost to become a member?
There are three types of memberships.

  • Active Member - $5.00 per year and volunteer a minimum of two shifts per month.
  • Contributing Member - $15.00 per year with no minimum shift schedule but may volunteer as desired.
  • Life Member - $100.00 per year, one-time contribution with no minimum shift schedule but may volunteer as desired.

Will I be required to wear a uniform?
Yes. A pink and white blouse and white slacks, with white, low heeled shoes, for women. Men wear blue jackets or shirt with khaki slacks and casual shoes.

What services are available to perform?
Services available to perform include Information Desk, Inpatient and Outpatient Desk, Intensive Care Unit, Surgery Waiting Desk, Gift Shop, Dining Menus, Tray Favors, Bookcart, and Junior Volunteers.

Must I work only at certain services?
No. You may choose the service you want to perform. You may prefer patient contact, or not. You may choose to try different areas of service. We will make every attempt to place you in the service and at the time of your choice.

How many hours does a shift or service last?
3 to 4 hours, depending on the service chosen.
