Physical Therapy Physical therapy is the health profession that focuses on the evaluation, management, and prevention of disorders of human motion. |
An important aspect in the health treatment plan is the Physical Medicine Department. Located at The Rehab & Fitness Zone, the Physical Medicine Department offers therapy for patients with orthopedic injuries, burns, and neurological disorders, using a variety of equipment including a treadmill, weight machines, a Total Gym system, a traction machine, whirlpools, BTE for work simulation, standing frame upper body exercise equipment, and ultrasound/electrical stimulation devices. Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy round out the department's comprehensive approach to patient care.
Physical Therapists may help patients increase their mobility and upper and lower body strength. They also help patients try to regain their previous functional status. Occupational therapists assist patients with exercises to increase upper body strength and fine motor control for increased independence in their activities of daily living. Speech therapists may help patients gain such skills as memory, thought processing, organization, verbal/nonverbal communications, and swallowing.
The therapists, assistants, and a qualified support staff follow physicians' orders in the use of exercise, functional training, and hydrotherapy to prevent or minimize disability, accelerate recovery, and reduce the length of a patient's hospital stay. Services are offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The department also has a work hardening program to help injured workers recover from job related injuries and disabilities.
