Brownwood Regional Medical Center Assist Comanche High School’s Child Development Class
Brownwood, Texas (March 18, 2010) – Comanche High School’s Child Development class is fortunate enough to have the Baby Think It Over Program under way and has Brownwood Regional Medical Center to thank for getting the class “in the drivers seat.” Literally, BRMC donated eight infant safety seats so that this year’s class would have the needed equipment to fully experience going mobile with an infant.
The Baby Think It Over Program is a parenting education program that increases participants’ awareness about issues related to the parenting of an infant. The core of the program is a parenting simulation, using an infant simulator that cries according to a real baby’s schedule. The student is required to provide care for the baby for a period of 4 days. During this time, the baby records if it is roughly handled, neglected, if its head is not properly supported, and the amount of time that it cries. The program also explores the emotional, financial, and social consequences of teen parenting. The Baby Think It Over Program is intended to help students understand that infants require a great deal of time and attention, and that their demands are unpredictable and must be met promptly. Lastly, the program helps students to realize that parenting responsibilities impact one’s lifestyle profoundly.
“Brownwood Regional Medical Center is a regional medical center serving numerous communities. We are happy to help Comanche High School’s Child Development class and help reinforce how parenting impacts young adults,” Matt Maxfield, Chief Executive Officer Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Brownwood Regional Medical Center would like to commend teacher, Lindsay Furlong, for her initiative in asking how BRMC could partner with her class.
